How To Clean Marble

Marble is certainly an excellent choice of flooring. However, despite its aesthetic appeal, it is still vulnerable to damage. Due to its soft nature, marble can be easily damaged and stained. Learn how to protect your investment with these simple and easy cleaning instructions.

Tools

Before scrubbing off that stain on your marble floors, here are some things you need to have:

  • Warm water
  • Sponge
  • Shammy or chamois
  • Polish
  • Non-abrasive cleaner

It is important that you choose the right cleaner. There are several of them available, including acetone and clear ammonia. You can, in addition, choose to use marble cleaner.

Starting

The first step is to wet the sponge (or cloth, if you don’t have any) with warm water. Once that’s done, continue wiping the surface thoroughly. You can clean the sponge with hot water to get rid of any residue from the scrubbing of the soapstone surface. You may notice some dull finish on the surface; this is due to soap residue that might have stuck on the surface. You can easily clean this with your sponge wetted in hot water. Continue this process until no residue is left on the surface.

The next step is to wipe the floor dry with your chamois. It is important never to allow the surface to air dry.

To effectively take care of your marble, remember to clean the surface with non-abrasive cleaner. This helps in removing stains and dirt on the surface.
